The handles on your doors are worn out over time and need to be replaced. When doing this it is important that the new handles conform to the critical dimensions of the old handle.

Cylinder locks are typically used on uPVC doors, but they can also be used on other types of door. The cylinder lock is operated by a key which unlocks the cylinder's casing. This reveals pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock, allowing them to rotate the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with both internal and external doors usually needing different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is vital. It's dependent on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. For instance, doors that are external must be secured with an extra secure cylinder, whilst internal bi-fold doors handles can be secured using the standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder needs to be measured accurately to ensure it's the right size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. If you are unable measure it with the lock in position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks, such as lock snapping, so it is crucial that it's not too long.

Most modern cylinders are designed with bump and anti-drill features built into their design. These are designed to reduce the risk of attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This can to deflect attacks and ensure your door is secure.

There are also cylinders that are made to resist snapping. This is an increasingly common type of attack on cylinders, where the break line in the lock is attacked by a tool that is specially designed to break off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is much quicker and more straightforward than opening multipoint locks. It also leaves little evidence of a break-in, which could hinder the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is located inside the base of the door handle backplate providing a sprung solution and returning your multipoint lock handles to their original position after using. The handles were previously equipped with no spring, and would slide when the locking mechanism was disengaged. This simple component is the most effective way to solve this issue. It also prevents your door from getting stuck in the closed or open position as they aren't easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specially designed for use with sprung multipoint locks, they will not fit non-sprung multipoint handles. You must have a custom hole cut into the backplate to allow them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). They are a replacement for existing damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplate of the door handle for many kinds of uPVC doors. They are sold as one unit. They feature a square cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.
