Following a string of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. The project is dubbed Space Key and created in collaboration with an unknown artist and inspired by a piece advanced carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The one-of-a-kind NFT is a physical object which connects to a unique digital artwork, accessible via an QR code on the back. The project is limited and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of a carbon composite material that Lamborghini, as part a research project in the year 2019, sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was transformed into a unique art work after it returned to Earth. The physical piece has an NFT serial number that is linked to the digital art work via a QR code located on the back.

NFTs for those not familiar are unique identifiers that are recorded on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and connected to a digital asset such as a picture or video, song, or other record. This allows owners to ensure the authenticity, scarcity, and trackability of their tokens over the internet.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts that hinted at it, a prestigious lambo car key manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. It's called the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock a unique digital artwork NFT created by an unidentified artist. Created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the collector's piece is limited to only five units and will soon be auctioned off.

Each Space Key contains a block made of advanced carbon-fire composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a research project for 2019. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved using a QR codes that connect to the digital element within the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the lamborghini centenario key Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Over 600 million pixels up each of the five images which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used an inflatable camera equipped with a lens to capture individual images, which were then put together into the final image. The result is an out-of-this world photo that captures the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and time of the event haven't been announced yet.

The auction
